LONDON, Ont. – A 62-year-old London, Ont., man will spend five more months in jail after pleading guilty to possessing a massive collection of child pornography.
Robert Johnson pleaded guilty in August of cultivating the cache of 220,000 images.
London police called it one of the largest child pornography collections they’d ever seen after the bust was executed last year.
On Tuesday, Justice Alan Bryant gave Johnson credit for the 502 days he’s already served and sentenced him to an additional five months in jail.
The Crown had requested an additional year in jail, while the defence made a case for releasing Johnson with credit for time served.
When Johnson, an admitted pedophile who has said he’s attracted to pre-pubescent girls, is released next year, he’ll have spent a total of 2 1/2 years behind bars.
Court heard Johnson rebuilt his collection after he was convicted in 2009 for possessing child pornography before his probation order was over.
Johnson’s latest conviction carries a number of conditions in addition to his continued jail sentence, including a ban on being in the presence of anyone under the age of 16 unless they’re accompanied by and adult, and a requirement to seek counselling.
